A Brief Overview:
Independently provides safe, effective, and compassionate nursing care for all patient populations on a specific unit. Utilizes the nursing process in planning, implementing, and evaluating the patient plan of care. Includes patient and family in the plan of care as appropriate. Maintains regulatory compliance in individual practice. Assumes the responsibility, accountability, and authority for outcomes of nursing care and to make decisions based on their therapeutic relationship with the patient. Guides and directs assigned unlicensed nursing personnel in delivering interdisciplinary patient care. Communicates and collaborates with nurses, physicians, and other members of the healthcare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes and continuity of care. The Resource Team Nurse supports the various nursing units and is flexible with their assignments.

  • Consistently works with patients in developing daily goals.
  • Demonstrates the principles of Relationship Base Care.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and application of NorthShore University HealthSystem policies and procedures that apply to their job and area of responsibility to provide a safe work environment for patients and staff.
  • Acknowledges the patient, introduces self, makes connection with the patient, identifies goals for hospitalization, and explains the rounding process Executes NorthShore Rounding which includes asking about the 4 P's (pain, positioning, personal needs and plan of care), narrates care, invites questions, and communicates events occurring throughout the shift
  • Assures cleanliness, removes clutter from the area to ensure a safe environment
  • Attend to unintended observations such as noise and strong smells
  • Participates in bedside hand-off and introduces the new care provider
  • Provides clinically competent nursing care to patients/families within the unit/department to ensure quality care is delivered.
  • Identifies actual and potential patient problems.
  • Develops, implements and coordinates a plan of care.
  • Evaluates patient outcomes and takes appropriate actions.
  • Revises the plan of care based on assessment and reassessment of the patient's response to care and treatment.
  • Includes the patient/family in the care planning process.
  • Independently performs required technical skills according to policy and procedures.
  • Demonstrates organizational skills in developing and delivering patient care.
  • Knowledge of bio-psycho-social sciences relevant to specific patient situations and age groups.
  • Appropriate professional and clinical resources supporting evidence based practice.
  • Utilizes the initial Learning Assessment to address patient's educational needs, level of understanding, readiness to learn, and barriers to learning; revise as appropriate.
  • Includes patient and family in the education plan.
  • Evaluates patient and family response to learning and need for further education.
  • Seeks and uses appropriate resources for patient/ family education, as needed.
  • Evaluates patient/family understanding of discharge plans and takes appropriate action.
  • Consistently develops and implements an individualized patient/family education plan and revises as appropriate to ensure that patients and families are knowledgeable and comfortable about the care that is being provided.
  • Fully utilizes the electronic medical record as directed by established workflows to provide accurate documentation of the patients' status.
  • Functions as Resource Person (RP)/Charge Nurse, when assigned, in compliance with the established expectations and guidelines for the unit.
  • Acts as an effective role model by demonstrating ownership of their practice and sharing information as appropriate.
  • Provides direction to PCT's and other ancillary personnel using effective communication, delegation, and feedback to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Participates and supports unit-based council activities.
  • Implements council recommendations.
  • Assists in data collection, when requested.
  • Participates in establishing unit goals to meet and exceed patient expectations.
  • Provides leadership to unit assigned to facilitate the daily operations of the unit.
  • Demonstrates willingness and motivation to continually improve own performance at unit level to promote professional growth.
  • Demonstrate quality and regulatory compliance in order to ensure that patient care is being delivered in a competent manner.
  • Communicates effectively with patients and families in a professional and timely manner to assure that all customer interactions are positive.

What you will need:
  • Bachelors Degree Nursing Preferred
  • 1 Year critical care or PACU experience required
  • 1 Year experience in comparable ASU RN role preferred.
  • Current professional Nursing Licensure in the State of Illinois
