Purpose Statement: Model United Nations is a co-curricular activity in which students role play as delegates to the United Nations and simulate UN committees. This activity takes place at MUN conferences, usually held in hotels and hosted by Universities. It involves substantial researching, public speaking, debating, and writing skills, as well as critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership abilities.
Essential Functions: * Supervises students during practices and competitions. * Schedules activities for the purpose of making necessary arrangements for practices and competitions. * Organizes and executes fundraisers according to D219 policies and procedures. * Engages students in community service activities. * Organizes, promotes, and attends tournaments. * Creates and maintains a variety of documents including attendance records to club meetings and overnight field trip paperwork. * Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient functioning of the club.
Goals of the Club * Promotes greater understanding of the world. * Develops students' life skills, such as critical thinking, reading, speaking, and advocacy. * Promotes students' awareness of current event issues. * Promotes the exchange of ideas among students. * Promotes critical thinking and teamwork around real world problems.
Calendar: September through April: Weekly meetings The competition dates are designated weekends in February, March and April.
Hours Per Week: 3 hours per week in meetings, plus competitions and planning
Building: Niles West High School, Niles North High School
Performance Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the District evaluation procedures.
