About the opportunity

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking Field Technicians to support the Las Vegas, Nevada office with long-term post-construction avian and bat fatality surveys located at an operating wind energy facility in northwest Arizona.These are hourly positions.

The project is currently ongoing, but additional staff will be needed starting March 1, 2021 through May 31, 2021. Preference will be given to applicants that can commit for the entirety of this field season.

Compensation and Schedule: Base rate is $18 per hour, dependent on experience. Work schedule varies by season, but typically includes five 8- to 12-hour workdays per week, with overtime possible. Vehicles provided.Daily travel to and from the Las Vegas office is paid. Successful applicants will be based out of Las Vegas, NV. Positions will be filled as soon as a qualified applicantsareidentified.

What you will accomplish

Applicants must be in excellent physical condition, as primary field duties will include hiking up to 10 miles of survey transects per day in sometimes challenging terrain (rocky, steep hills, cacti, snakes). Successful applicants will collect detailed data on bird and bat carcasses, with identification of bird/bat carcasses to species when possible. Searcher efficiency trials will be conducted as a part of normal survey activities. Additional duties may include carcass persistence checks and vehicle maintenance. Daily tablet/computer data entry required. Successful applicants will attend a required site safety training, must adhere to all project safety and compliance measures while on site, and are required to wear hard hats, safety vests, and sturdy boots while on the job site (hard hat and vest will be provided).

Experience and qualifications for success
    Detail-oriented and capable of adhering to established protocols
  • Ability to record project data accurately and efficiently
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Physically fit to withstand long field days and walking in uneven terrain
  • Tolerance of a wide range of temperatures, as this work is outdoors year-round
  • Must maintain client confidentiality
  • Preferred prior post-construction survey experience
  • Experience with avian and/or bat identification is a plus
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification a plus
  • Current eligibility to work in the U.S
  • A valid driver's license
