The Senior Network Engineer will provide network support to dedicated enterprise Navy operational and training networks, under the engineering oversight of the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC), Corona Division. The network engineer will be a member of a network engineering and operations team supporting enterprise Navy operational and training networks, distributed globally to over 100 shore-based sites and ~120+ ships. Engineer will be focused on consolidating operational Navy Air Ranges into the Navy Enterprise Tactical Training Network (NETTN) standard network architecture. Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance is required.
Working under the guidance of the Network Architect, the Network Engineer will be responsible to support the NETTN Consolidation Engineering project to include providing resource scheduling, prioritization, management, tracking, and status reporting throughout the life-cycle of the project. This position will report to the Network Division Lead and will augment the Network Architect for the effort. The Network Engineer will interface and liaison with Navy government and contractor personnel, as well as the Alion Engineering Program Management Office to coordinate, report, and maintain project tasking, requirements, status reporting, and problem resolution where needed. Schedules, resource assignments, and approvals shall be maintained in coordination with the Fielding Division Lead and other Division Leads requiring support from network engineering. The Network Engineer may provide technical recommendations to the Network Architect for review.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Network Engineer will be responsible for planning and execution of the installation of new nodes, as well as operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting network connectivity and infrastructure on enterprise managed networks. The Network Engineer will support the installation of and operation and maintenance of multiple network enclaves across different classification levels and may augment ensuring continuous network connectivity is maintained to customers and sites.
He/she will support establishing and maintaining connectivity of an IP and MPLS network, running various network protocols and advanced network engineering techniques and architectures, in support of Navy training and operational requirements. The Network Engineer will support the drafting of Bill of Materials (BOMs) for network device hardware and software procurement, based on the approved network portfolio, as well conduct analysis of the Fielding Division site survey reports for accurate network engineering planning. The Network Engineer may support site surveys when necessary. The engineer will support the physical installations and network configurations at local and remote CONUS sites initially and eventually OCONUS sites, further in the life cycle of the project, along with the travel coordination necessary. Installation will include network diagram creation according to division standards, IP address allocation and planning, device software or IOS upgrades in compliance with approved IOS baselines, device configuration of all network platforms, network security compliance including implementation of DISA STIGs in order to maintain network accreditations, System Operational Verification Test (SOVT) completion on site to validate full functionality of the node(s), as well as circuit SOVTs, daily site installation status reporting, coordination with the circuits team, Fielding Division, and other Divisions as needed, and documentation verification upon node install completion.
Additional duties may include escalation of issues or problems that are discovered by the NOC to the Network Engineer. The Network Engineer may provide troubleshooting assistance of network connectivity including WAN circuits, equipment failures, router and switch configurations, firewall access control lists, VoIP device registrations and configuration as well as Call Manager and UCM troubleshooting, and cryptographic device configurations and keying material. The engineer shall report and maintain documentation of the physical and logical network architecture, IP addressing, networking capabilities, and service level performance of the sites as well as documentation on proposed changes or modifications. The Network Engineer may be required to assist the Project Lead with additional network engineering tasks, development of architectural and technical briefs or documents on the design, capabilities, and functional operation of networking technologies and projects for peer-review with Network Engineering and other divisions.
