All About You

Job Summary

Under general direction, the position will be responsible for routine laboratory techniques including western blotting, real-time PCR, isolation and purification of DNA and proteins, microscopy, immunohistochemistry, cell culture, tissue dissection, and pre-clinical experimental models. The position will be responsible for providing updates to the investigative team during weekly laboratory meetings. Additionally, the Research Scientist will participate in individual weekly meetings with the PI and investigative team to discuss progress and assist research personnel with the preparation and submission of experimental protocols and amendments.

Job Duties

* Assists with handling and storage of tissue specimens, homogenization and isolation of RNA, and real-time PCR experiments.

* Works with animals, including care, dissections, collection and harvest of tissue, and preparation of vocal fold specimens for experimental assays.

* Participates in weekly meetings with PI and research team.

* Conducts independent design and execution of projects.

* Develops IACUC and IRB protocols.

* Assists the principal investigator and investigative team with design of research protocols, including developing procedures for the collection, verification, and management of data.

* Contributes to grant writing and progress report submissions.

* Presents research at national meetings and contributes to manuscript preparation and submission of journal articles for publication.

* Contributes to technical or procedural improvements in experimental protocols.

* Performs literature searches.

* Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

* Ability to design research studies and experimental protocols.

* Familiarity with institutional and federal compliance and rules pertaining to research.

* Experience with animal care and use and working with the IACUC.

* Strong verbal and written communication skills.

* Experience in scientific writing strongly preferred.

* Ability to plan and coordinate experiments.

* Demonstrated experience in clinical or biomedical research.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required; supplemented with at least two to three (2-3) years of research experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree; Ph.D. degree, or other earned professional doctoral degree and research experience.
