Job Description:
  • Support full-time accounting employees through journal entries, ledger posting, and handling accounts receivable/payable. Additional duties include reconciling bank statements, the ability to make rapid and accurate arithmetic calculations either manually or by machine, and the operation of adding machines. An understanding of bookkeeping principles and accounting techniques is required.
    Under direction, conducts a variety of complex specialized clerical activities about the Workers 'Compensation, Personal Injury, and Liens and Estates Unit; accesses information utilizing a Personal Computer (PC), composes liens, letters to attorneys, insurance companies, and department officials; calculates ledgers for related Personal injury, Workers' Compensation, or Liens and Estates; data enters and processes statistical reports; files documents and responds to telephone.
Additional skills Required:
  • Bending/Lifting 50lbs: May require squatting, climbing, bending, standing for long periods, and lifting to 50 Ibs.
  • High School Diploma/GED: Completion of high school or GED. Must be able to prove completion if necessary.
  • Keyboarding (50 wpm): Touch-typing skills to type alphanumeric correspondence, word processor documents, and additional paragraph-structured documents.
Computer software skills:
  • Basic knowledge and familiarity with word processor programs (MS Word, WordPerfect, or other as approved by the User Agency), spreadsheet programs (Excel, Lotus, Quattro Pro, or other as approved by the User Agency), database software (MS Access, or other as approved by the User Agency), and email software programs. General computer know-how, with the ability to research via the Internet.
  • The User Agency will specify at the time of order what specific software programs will be used by the temporary worker on the assignment.
Role & Responsibilities:
  • The temporary staff will assist with reviewing and processing hospital referrals and trauma jetters; monitor and distribute incoming referrals to the Personal Injury MVorker's Compensation (PIAVC), Liens and Estates (L&E), and Administrative (ADM) Units' general mailboxes; and review and forward Right Fax correspondence.
  • The temporary staff will aid in reviewing and filing back-up of the documentation contained in boxes received periodically for L&E and PIAVC payments processed by the Administration Support Unit in Springfield.
  • The temporary staff will assess incoming referrals for viable cases, screen Probate cases listed on the Daily Law Bulletin website, file case records, and answer/direct incoming phone calls. In addition, temporary staff will be assigned to complete a purging project of the 2022 PIMWC and L&Eclosed files by examining each case, listing the case data, creating labels, and preparing the boxes for storage.
