All About You

JOB SUMMARY:

The Research Scientist at the Taylor Geospatial Institute (TGI) performs research in geospatial sciences and/or applied research domains. The Taylor Geospatial Institute is a consortium of 8 regional research and academic institutes with hundreds of geospatial-focused researchers. The Research Scientist serves as a critical liaison among consortium geospatial researchers by supporting, coordinating or leading the submission of large multi-million-dollar collaborative research grants, being a convener and enabler of faculty research across the consortium, and organizing and leading research events and working groups to weave together ideas across disciplines. This position will directly contribute to the realization of the Institute mission of advancing geospatial science through multi-institutional, interdisciplinary collaborations designed to create innovative, real-world solutions to societal grand challenges.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Enables and supports the submission of multi-million-dollar collaborative grant proposals to funding opportunities

  • Coordinates and develops collective grant submission with faculty from TGI partner institutions

  • Leads grant submissions in area of expertise

  • Conducts research in support of the TGI geospatial research consortium

  • Designs and conducts research; analyzes data; documents experiments and studies; interprets and presents results

  • Coordinates activities within the consortium by organizing and leading research events and working groups across the consortium; generates new research ideas and concepts to create an environment that allows for the collision of ideas across disciplines, and for the forging of new connections within the consortium that leads to further grant submissions;include industry and government partners in these events when appropriate

  • Publishes peer reviewed papers and project reports

  • Performs other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Advanced knowledge in geospatial science (remote sensing, GIS, photogrammetry, GPS/PNT) and applied areas

  • Advanced knowledge in applied domains that use geospatial technologies

  • Knowledge in new computational, analytical, or machine-learning methods

  • Knowledge of cloud computing

  • Basic knowledge of geovisualization, modeling, and GeoAI

  • Basic knowledge of GPS and UAV data collection

  • Strong geospatial skills

  • Scientific writing and reporting skills

  • Verbal and written communication skills, including presentations

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including teamwork and collaboration

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in geospatial science, geoinformatics, geography, computer science, remote sensing, or related areas

  • Three years of related work experience

  • Peer-reviewed publications in top journals

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ph.D. in geospatial science, geoinformatics, geography, computer science, remote sensing, or related areas

  • Strong geospatial skills

  • Record of scholarly research and publications
