Description

Overview/Function: The Fleet Technician Intern will gain valuable experience by assisting us with routine service and maintenance of the company's fleet vehicles and equipment (route delivery trucks, tractors, trailers, corporate cars, forklifts, pallet jacks, etc.), to ensure a safe and efficient fleet of vehicles. Major Responsibilities:

The Fleet Technician Intern will assist with:

  • Performing regular preventative maintenance (i.e. oil/lubrication, filters, battery, brake, transmission, coolant, tire rotations, etc.), and unscheduled emergency repairs (which will include the use of diagnostic equipment).
  • Diagnosing and troubleshooting general vehicle operating systems.
  • Documenting all performed repairs and maintenance work in writing and electronically.
  • Performing necessary adjustments in equipment to ensure safe and efficient operations and prepare required safety documentation.
  • Reading and interpreting equipment service manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
  • Using a variety of hand and power tools, as well as precision measuring tools.
  • Understanding and following all federal, state, local, and company regulations (such as the disposal of hazardous waste).
  • Following all safety regulations and maintaining a clean and orderly work area. Perform tasks safely and ensure the safety of employees and others.
  • Complying with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Working towards a related automotive and maintenance degree required. Prior related automotive and maintenance experience is a plus.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Computer skills including email, maintenance programs, and diagnostic systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and quickly resolve problems within assigned timelines.
  • Ability to disassemble and reassemble.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow blueprints, service directions, and work orders; follow all standard operating procedures, safety requirements, and GMP protocols.
  • Strong problem-resolution and analytical thinking skills.
  • Experience using lifting devices (bottle, floor, wheel, or transmission jacks, floor cranes, etc.)
  • Experience using precision measurement instruments (micrometers, dial indicators, electronic multimeters/testers, A/C charging station, etc.).
  • Able to frequently lift components weighing approximately 110 pounds with appropriate equipment and assistance from another person.
  • Ability to safely operate vehicles equipped with manual and automatic transmissions.
  • Ability to enter and exit the driver's compartment of the truck and/or behind the cab using normal available footholds and handholds.
  • An excellent team player who is flexible and able to adapt to varying situations. Must have a pleasant demeanor, with good written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Good attention to detail is needed. Some computer experience is helpful.
  • Other duties as required.

Additional:

  • This position is very active and requires regular manual finger, hand, and arm dexterity, to potentially work around cramped and tight spaces. Standing, walking, twisting, grasping, reaching, pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, sitting, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day will be required. The employee may frequently lift and/or move items up to 75 lbs., and greater (with assistance). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The ability to climb stairs is also needed.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided.
  • This role is considered a safety-sensitive position.
