POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Building Aide

LOCATION/DEPT: Blue Island Crossgenerations

REPORTS TO (TITLE): Corps Officer

FLSA CATEGORY: Non-Exempt

STATUS TYPE: RPT

OUTCOMES

The Building Aide provides necessary support for building preparation, opening, closing and security for groups using the facility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assist with building preparation (set up, tear down) as requested.
  2. Assist with Set up and Tear down of events such as: Back to School Distribution, Angel Tree Toy Shop, Christmas Kettle Campaign
  3. Open and close facilities as assigned.
  4. Perform janitorial duties as assigned to maintain public areas for participants and spectators.
  5. Assist with upkeep and cleanliness of gym equipment and area.
  6. Help provide supervision to participants during programs, rentals and events.
  7. Assist in serving and cleaning for Senior Meal Program as needed.
  8. Help drive for donation pickups and assist in sorting through items (Food, Toys, Clothing donations, etc.)
  9. Help drive for Christmas Kettle Campaign.
  10. Front Desk coverage as needed.
  11. Help maintain corps landscaping & vehicle upkeep and organization of building storage areas.
  12. All other duties as assigned.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

This position reports to the Corps Officer.

In contacts related to this position's duties, this individual acts as a representative of The Salvation Army and its mission.

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS

This individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved, as well as the timeliness, accuracy and completeness of accomplishing assigned goals.

A 30, 60, and 90-day performance review will be conducted.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Previous sports ministry experience or work with youth preferred.
  • Valid Driver's license/MVR clearance

POSITION LIMITATIONS

  • This individual will only commit Army resources that have been allocated or approved.
  • This individual will keep the Corps Officer informed on all critical issues relating to their area of responsibility.
  • This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This position is required to do light to heavy physical work and must be able to lift or move up to 50 pounds.
  • In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use standard janitorial and community center equipment.
  • The work environment includes an office and community center with a low to high noise level.
  • Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters and maintains positive relationships with co-workers and supervisors. This would include but not be limited to such actions: resolution of conflicts in a positive manner; courteous treatment of staff, clients and visitors; respect of others' property and person, professional and appropriate communication to and about co-workers, supervisors and subordinates.
