The Outreach Associate (Multimedia Specialist) informs, engages, and develops initiatives and projects that amplify the impact of ProBAR's work to empower immigrants. Our growing team of Outreach Associates works collaboratively and independently to apply their knowledge and creativity to a diverse and expanding portfolio of activities in support of ProBAR's mission.

ProBAR empowers immigrants through high-quality legal information, representation, and connections to services. ProBAR serves immigrants in the Rio Grande Valley and Houston regions with a particular focus on the legal needs of adults and unaccompanied children in federal custody. Job Summary / General Purpose of Job

Represents and promotes ProBAR and its mission to diverse audiences and develops initiatives, projects, and partnerships to advance ProBAR's work with adult and children in immigration detention.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities (listed in order of importance and/or time spent)

  • Develops and produces high quality promotional collateral in a variety of formats including but not limited to photography, videography, graphic design, and writing, along with other communications media in accordance with a changing legal environment and evolving organizational needs.
  • Conducts on-camera interviews in both English & Spanish, effectively and appropriately guiding conversations with staff, volunteers, clients, and others.
  • Collaborates with the Communications Manager and the Engagement and Development team to develop project concepts and plan out media creation efforts, from conception to completion and implementation.
  • Ensure all promotional collateral adheres to brand guidelines and maintains a consistent visual style. Ensure all materials and related assets are securely managed and organized.
  • Serve as ProBAR representative (on and off-site) for designated events (e.g. media escorting, media partner implementation, etc.)
  • Cognizant of changing immigration laws and detention policies, procedures and conditions, tracks, analyzes and strategizes communication of these trends to appropriate audiences.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices in photography, videography and editing.
  • Considers staff needs and identifies and manages training and enrichment opportunities for staff.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Required Education, Qualifications, Experience

  • Possession of a bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Film, or related fields from an accredited college or university and 2 years of work-related experience in developing, writing, and designing web content, promotional materials, or multimedia collateral and/or conducting other communications activities, or 6 years of equivalent work-related experience in these areas.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere, After Effects, Lightroom, Photoshop, Illustrator) and Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, OneDrive, teams).
  • Able to effectively communicate in-person, by telephone, and via email with a variety of audiences including personnel from other organizations and volunteers.
  • Must have reliable transportation to travel between office and off-site work locations.
  • Must have reliable internet and phone connection.
  • This position requires the ability to travel to and enter care provider facilities funded by the Office of Refugee Resettlement, Administration for Children and Families, United States Department of Health and Human Services which provide housing and services to unaccompanied children. This position will require the provision of legal services to unaccompanied children in such care provider facilities. In accordance with the federal regulation, background check will be required for this position.

Preferred Education, Qualifications, Experience

  • Possession of a master's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Film, or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish in written and oral forms.
  • Strong writing skills and previous experience writing, editing, and producing publications.
  • Experience developing content and managing platforms for digital communications - including web, email, and social media.
  • Experience with post-production processes, including but not limited to video editing, photo editing, color correction, audio mixing, and motion graphics.
  • Working knowledge of photography and videography, from production techniques to equipment (DSLR & Mirrorless cameras, lighting equipment, audio equipment).
  • Professional experience with Adobe Creative Software (Premiere, After Effects, Lightroom, Photoshop, Illustrator), Canva or similar tools for design and multimedia content creation.
  • Experience with public-speaking or educational outreach.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Capable of receiving creative direction and handling criticism related to work.
  • Capable of managing projects from start to finish, overseeing project timelines and deadlines, and handling client communications related to video projects.
  • Prior experience developing collaborative relationships with organizational partners.
  • Prior volunteer, community, or work experience regarding immigration or detention.
  • Prior experience in a nonprofit setting, particularly in roles involving communications or outreach responsibilities.
  • Prior experience in legal and/or social services-oriented organizations.

Physical Requirements

Typical office setting, working with computer and other office equipment as well as responding to incoming phone calls and emails. Some tasks may involve lifting or organizing supplies and/or promotional materials.

Travel

As a normal course of business, this job will typically require travel up to 10% of the time.

The Salary

The starting hiring range for this position is $50,123.00 - $57,617.00 based on relevant experience and education.
