Description:

Position Summary
This position provides leadership and vision to the employer management and development functions for Career Services by marketing and expanding UIC's presence with local and national employers. Additionally, the position serves as a member of the department's senior management team developing strategies to improve career preparation, opportunities, and connections for undergraduate and graduate students and alumni.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Promote and generate visibility of Career Services and UIC with local and national employers for recruiting purposes.
  • Develop strategies to engage employer partners in activities and initiatives designed to support student career development and further the goals of Career Services.
  • Identify internship and full-time job opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students, particularly in the more underserved academic areas throughout the institution.
  • Cultivate relationships with employers interested in recruiting from a lens of justice, diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Provide oversight and management of campus career fairs and employer data in the Handshake system.
  • Collaborate with college-based career offices and partners to develop strategies for comprehensive corporate and employer engagement.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of employer development efforts and provide feedback as to the effectiveness of such efforts.
  • Serve on the First Destination Survey Committee to contribute strategies on effective data collection from both employers and students.
  • Provide leadership for employer engagement staff in strategic planning and goal setting, monthly and annual reports, while providing day to day management of employer relations staff and activities.
  • Collaborate with career advising and student employment staff for program support and initiation.
  • Serve as liaison to campus and university departments and represent the department on committees as needed and requested.
  • Attend corporate, alumni and professional associations and events to cultivate a network of key decision makers.
  • Benchmark best practices of career services functions in relation to employer and corporate development.
  • Develop, offer and present career preparation seminars for undergraduate and graduate level students as needed.
  • Represent the University on committees and consortiums outside the institution.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


  • Qualifications:

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree
    • A minimum of five years of work experience in career services or a corporate recruitment human resources function.
    • Direct experience with career planning, campus recruitment, internship and employment practices.
    • Strong communication, interpersonal, teamwork and leadership skills.


    Preferred Qualifications
    • MBA or master's degree.
    • Previous supervisory experience.
    • Experience with business development and sales or external outreach, particularly in an educational or career development setting.
